Cards for a Cure

Please take just a minute to read about this little girl's brave fight and battle against ALL (acute lymphocytic leukemia). There is a link at the end to "Cards for a Cure." What a simple and wonderful way to show love and support to someone you don't even know.
With great savings comes the ability to give greatly.

Welcome and thank you for visting Allie's caringbridge page.  On March 9, 2010 Allie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Two weeks earlier she seemed to be a healthy 3 year old helping plan her 4th b-day party...

Background Story
The day after visiting my dad in Huntsville, i noticed allie seemed to be getting a little head cold so i got her some allergy medicine and after a few days on that she just seemed to be getting worse, dark circles under her eyes, yellowish in color, and kept asking if she could go lie down and she NEVER asks to sleep. So i knew something just wasn't right with her so i took her to the doctor on Monday march 8. They drew some labs and the doctor came in and told me that she was very anemic and her platelet count was very very low but her WBC was in the normal range, so he sent us over to the pediatrician in dothan and he immediately sent us to Children's Hospital. We got there and the dr came in and told us that she did have cancer but they wouldnt know what kind until they drew some more labs. About an hour later they came in and told us that they were pretty sure she had Leukemia but it would be after the bone marrow aspiration and biopsy the next day that could determine 100% and what kind it was, they were hopeful that it was ALL (acute lymphocytic leukemia). The next day around 5pm they came in with the news that she infact did have ALL. We are very optimistic about the type of leukemia she has. There is a 90-95% survival rate for children with this type of Leukemia. We know God has a special plan for Allie cats life. We have a long road ahead of us, she will be in treatment for 2 1/2 years. We are currently stationed in NC but we were in Enterprise, Al visiting our family while Nick is in school in texas. We are trying to get relocated to AL so we can be near our families to help with our other daughter Bailey, she is 4months old. I have faith that through God we will make it through this, he has and will place wonderful doctors and nurses in our path.  Please continue to pray for Allie and we would love it if you signed our guestbook, it really brightens our day to see all the loving things that you write.

       do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
       I will strengthen you and help you;
       I will uphold you with my righteous right hand

with much love,
The McSween family

A co-worker of mine works with the Leukemia and Lymphoma society in raising funds and awareness to find a cure for this disease. Every year she holds the "Twilight Pageant" in order to do so. They sponsor a child every year, their "honorary Queen/King." This year, Allysa McSween is that child. Below is an excerpt from their Facebook page:

"During this Christmas season we want to reach out to her and her family. We are hoping that as a group and all of our family, friends and casual acquaintances will join us to bring a smile to a face that cancer can't steal. We plan to do this... with "CARDS FOR A CURE". Together we can make this amazing effort to help Allie and her family not only with Christmas expenses but with the insurmountable debt that a family affected with cancer has to deal with. This is a very simple way of showing them that we love them, are praying for them and also reach out and help them through this unimaginable difficult time. I am sure they will have a great Christmas just by having Ally with them, but this effort, I am sure will definitely brighten the holiday for them.

We did this last year for another child with cancer and her mail box was full to capacity each day of the holiday season. They were speechless with the outpouring of love and support from friends, family and complete strangers. Last year, I bought (cheap, generic) Christmas cards and wrote the address on it to make it easy for people I work with to write a quick note and stick $1.00 in it. Most people have a dollar to spare. This child's parents told me that they received cards with 1.00 bills, 4 quarters, dimes and then some with more. Let's bless the McSween family that same way and I PROMISE...YOU will be the one that receives the blessing!!!"

Please, while you are mailing out your Christmas cards this year will you take just that extra few minutes to mail one to her as well?
You can mail cards to PO Box 312157 Enterprise, Al 36331-2157

Thank you Angie for all that you do. You are truly a phenomenal woman.
